Canyon Springs will develop high school graduates who:

Employ critical thinking skills

Collaborate effectively with peers and staff

Demonstrate the Cougar values of responsibility, integrity, and grit

Become global and civic-minded citizens

Utilize technology effectively as responsible digital citizens




Exemplars

1. Skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and the use of computer technology include critical thinking and problem solving. Evidence includes, but is not limited to, projects, research papers, portfolios, oral and written reports, debates, teacher and student constructed assessment tools, investigations, demonstrations, student-created videos, and standardized testing instruments such as the SAT.

2. Effective communication includes reading, writing, listening, speaking and presenting. Evidence includes, but is not limited to, peer assessments and critical analysis; student speeches and debates; written and oral reports; visual, performing and fine arts; multimedia presentations using computers; and student video presentations.

3. Students will work effectively both individually and with others. They will acknowledge the diversity of human culture and belief systems. Evidence includes, but is not limited to, the number and nature of referrals; the number of tardies and truancies; participation in cooperative learning groups; cross-age tutoring; peer mediation; as well as self-assessment portfolios and projects, participation in school activities, community service and work experience.

4. Preparing for one's own physical and emotional well-being means engaging in a lifestyle conducive to healthy living. Evidence includes, but is not limited to, participating in school activities and sports; maintaining personal hygiene; successful completion of two years of physical education and health classes; peer mediation; and student assistance programs.
