Canyon Springs High School is an authorized World School for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

IB Mission Statement:

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) is more than its educational programmes and certificates. At our heart we are motivated by a mission to create a better world through education.

We value our hard earned reputation for quality, for high standards and for pedagogical leadership. We achieve our goals by working with partners and by actively involving our stakeholders, particularly teachers.

We promote intercultural understanding and respect, not as an alternative to a sense of cultural and national identity, but as an essential part of life in the 21st century.

All of this is captured in our mission statement:

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Introduction

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a rigorous academic program designed to challenge students to be critical thinkers, communicate effectively using written and verbal expression, and develop an awareness of the world around them.  The IB program provides a balanced two-year course of study.

What is the Diploma Program?

The IB Diploma Program is designed as a two-year academically challenging and balanced program of education with final examinations that prepare students, in their junior and senior year, for success at university and life beyond.

It promotes international understanding; educates the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth; it also develops inquiry and critical thinking skills, and the capacity to reflect upon and to evaluate actions critically.

The Diploma Program prepares students for university and encourages them to: ask challenging questions, learn how to learn, develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture, and develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

Students take pre-requisite courses in the 9th and 10th grades, and will join the IB Diploma Program for their Junior and Senior year. The IB Diploma program is another way for students to meet their A-G requirements for college and enhance their marketability for universities.

Upon completion of the Diploma Program, students will:

  • receive a balanced subject breadth and depth of education, and considered the nature of knowledge across disciplines.
  • develop a positive attitude toward learning that prepares them for success at the university level.
  • develop the whole student - physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.
  • citizens who are internationally minded-who embrace their own culture, are open and responsive to other cultures, and will be prepared to live and work in our global economy.
